  • Troubleshooting malfunctioning lab instruments or test equipment and test mechanical mechanisms and electronic circuitry for “root cause” failures.
  • Perform hands-on repair for malfunctioning lab instruments or test equipment, and tests assembly for conformance, in accordance to manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Willing and able to travel domestically, with some international travel, 50% of the time annually, to provide repair support to our Customers. This will include being away for up to a full week at a time as and when required
  • Provide the customer with phone and email recommendations to resolve lab instrument issues and or follow up with on-going issues with the customer. Reporting to the Software Development Manager, the successful candidate will enhance, troubleshoot, research, and resolve embedded software challenges on Q-Lab’s custom designed controller boards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing and developing software to work with Q-Lab testers, devices, sensors, and other peripherals.
  • Engaging in all phases of development, including concept, design, documentation, prototype, test and manufacturing.
  • Writing touchscreen user interface software.
  • Developing control systems algorithms to improve control system performance.
  • Troubleshooting low level controller/software related problems.
  • Writing test instructions, test reports, and engineering change notices.
  • Open-minded and willing to adopt Q-Lab’s software development strategy.
  • Recommending improvements to Q-Lab’s software development process.
  • Providing technical assistance to the engineering, purchasing, service, sales, marketing, and production departments.

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Associates degree in Electrical Engineering or Software Development, or has equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledgeable with common software development practices and the C programming language.
  • Knowledgeable with common embedded software development IDEs (integrated development environments) and debuggers (e.g. Segger J-Link).
  • Knowledge of communication protocols is a plus (e.g. I2c, SPI).
  • Knowledge of utilizing an oscilloscope for troubleshooting/data collection is a plus.
  • Strong customer-service orientation. Effective interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Has a good sense of humor and a small ego.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for general building maintenance including plumbing and electrical installations. Oversee troubleshooting, repair & maintenance of all company equipment and vehicles. Maintain organization of stored equipment, parts and materials. Assist in the preparation of specimens for testing and with test rack construction, repairs and relocation within in the field.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Building Maintenance

Maintain AC Units, ice machine and plumbing, especially in the bathrooms and break room; troubleshoot and repair minor electrical defects; change ceiling tiles, light bulbs, and air filters; paint internal walls as required

Storage Organization

Monitor and maintain the contents of the warehouse, mootel and containers

Vehicles and Tools

Preventive maintenance and repairs of power and manual tools; limited servicing and general maintenance of company vehicles such as the fork lift, truck and golf carts; operate vehicles as required

Exposure Equipment

Daily checks of black boxes and ensure that fillers are in place

Assist in construction, modification, relocation and maintenance of exposure racks and sub-frames for outdoor lab as well as special projects.

General

Assist personnel in accelerated lab and special projects as required

Assist field technicians as required.

Assist visiting clients as requested

Other tasks as assigned

Active role in hurricane plan

SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires good mechanical skills, and the ability to work with a variety of tools; requires someone who likes to work with machinery. Some knowledge of shop practice is useful; must be aware of safety issues for machinery and equipment.

INTER-RELATIONSHIPS

Will be working alongside the field technicians and under the Field Supervisor; will also report to the Managing Director and the Site Manager on certain items.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is mostly outdoors but will involve indoor work especially for building maintenance; must be able to lift, carry and work with machines; will use a golf cart for mobility in the field.
